Update on the 55 FL project.
Have engine out.
After blasting and cleaning engine cases were found to be in excellent condition. (sigh of relief)
There were no oil screens found in the engine, lifter screen or breather screen. Lifters had to be sized to .005 over. breather tube sized .030 over. Oil pump body was worn so will be replaced with Sifton high output pump. Cam chest gears, shafts and bushings were also replaced along with a “J” grind cam.
Flywheels, rods and engine shaft bearings were found to be Shovelhead parts. There is a .030 spacing difference in engine shaft bearings between the pan and shovel, so all were replaced.
Truett and Osborn flywheels, Sifton H beam rods.
New cadmium Finnish engine hardware kit. Cam cover and gasket set.
Ready for a new Panhead top end.
